We continue our journey through the Beatitudes with our fifth Beatitude this week. “Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy” (Matthew 5:7). If grace is giving someone a gift they don’t deserve, then mercy is withholding a punishment or consequence that someone does deserve.
